Rock Eagle is one of two known large scale bird effigies found east of the Mississippi River. The mound is made of quartzite boulders and measures 102 feet head to tale and 120 feet wingtip to wingtip. The mound has been excavated and is thought to date from the Woodland period of Southeastern Archaeology. The site is owned by the University of Georgia and is part of the Rock Eagle 4-H Camp.
